Forget about the kid appeal of magic and money; the whole Tooth Fairy-sneaking-into-the-bedroom-and reaching-under-the-pillow concept freaked out my youngest daughter so much that my husband and I finally had to confess our involvement in the scheme. If only we'd had the Tooth Fairy Beacon app ($1.99, iTunes), we could have held on to that piece of childhood magic a little longer.
This app adds bells, whistles and a whole mythology to the Tooth Fairy scenario, “scaning” your child’s tooth to see how much sparkle it has, then sending out a beacon that calls the Tooth Fairy to your location. You can leave the tooth anywhere you want for the Tooth Fairy to exchange for a reward -- no under-the-pillow maneuvering required. The next day, your child has a sweet, shareable thank-you e-postcard from the Tooth Fairy (in addition to whatever the going rate is in your house.) There's also a whole bunch of good oral hygiene stuff thrown in for good measure.
An app that makes tooth brushing magical -- and lets you play Tooth Fairy without having to stealthily sneak into your kids’ rooms? I’m definitely enchanted.
