As a native Californian living in New York, I travel a lot (and I mean a lot). I'm heading to San Francisco this weekend for my brother's big birthday bash and so I pulled on my trusty go-to airplane outfit. Maybe my flying style strategy will help you dress for your travels...
Layers: A big comfy sweater is the perfect thing to ward-off the airplane chill. This one was a bargain I grabbed from Old Navy for only $25 (this one is pretty similar for $39.50). I layer it over an easy T-shirt.
Leggings: Leggings are as close as you can get to pajamas and still be out-in-public appropriate -- which is perfect for a six hour plane ride. I love my DKNY leggings ($15 at Bare Necessities) -- they are a bit thicker than your average pair (read: warmer and more figure-friendly).
Boots: This may seem somewhat counter-intuitive to some people. After all, boots aren't the quickest thing to get on and off in the nightmare that is TSA screenings. Here's the thing -- I find boots incredibly difficult to pack -- they take up so much room! So I always wear boots on the plane. These Ariat Plymouth Boots ($220 at Zappos) are flat, comfortable, go with everything and zip up, so all I do is slip my foot in, zip and I am ready to go.
Accessories: I keep them to a minimum! Just a pair of thin metal dangly earrings that are airport metal detector proof.
