While it is not my most favorite moment, it certainly was one of my most memorable.
When I was 15 years old, I came home from a date with my high school senior boyfriend. Naturally she was waiting for me to check in with her (it was not late, since I had a strict curfew) and when I did she asked me if I have any questions that I would like to ask her about sex.
Now, my mother has always been the Dr. Ruth of the Mom set and from an early age she had always answered my questions factually and directly, but as a teenager I suddenly was embarrassed to discuss such things with her and did not want my mother knowing about anything I was experimenting with.
I responded no to her question and she was quiet for a bit. She then said very calmly and evenly, "Just remember, if you are not mature enough to discuss it, you probably aren't mature enough to do it."
That statement hit me like a ton of bricks and I knew the truth in the statement (although I never admitted it to her).
There are many other moments of tenderness, wisdom and hilarity, but this one really stopped me in my tracks.
