My Toasted Tresses Now Come with a Side of Hair Butter

The cream that answered my head’s S.O.S. calls

My hair waved the white flag a long time ago, but I continue to torture the poor strands, exposing them to hours of sun, blow-dryer heat and color treatments. The result: Brittle locks as parched as Lindsay Lohan in a rehab clinic. Enter Healthy Hair Butter by Carol’s Daughter ($10.50 at Sephora). This little tub has become my instant salvation.

With a blend of essential oils (lavender, rosemary and ylang-ylang), the finishing cream softens in seconds, minimizes (and camouflages) breakage and conditions my thirsty hair. And, yup, you guessed it -- the quick fix contains shea butter and cocoa butter. Plus, it’s totally eco-friendly and natural, formulated without parabens, sulfates and all that other bad stuff.

The salve was developed to be massaged into the scalp as well as the hair, and includes patchouli, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. But I apply just a dab to only my mane (the thick cream should be used sparingly to avoid a greasy 'do), concentrating on the dry, frizzy ends. Try it. Your stressed-out strands will thank me.
