Myth #3: Men Don't Have to Worry About HPV

Fact: Men are just as likely to contract HPV as women. According to the CDC, when transmitted sexually, the viruses can infect men’s genital areas, including the skin on and around the penis, scrotum and anus. But there is no diagnostic test that can accurately determine whether a man is carrying an HPV infection. People who perform oral sex on an infected partner can also contract HPV in their mouth and throat. This can lead to genital or oral warts, as well as cancer of the penis, anus, mouth or throat.
