Myth: "I won't get pregnant if I douche after sex."

FACT: Douching is not a replacement for contraception. After ejaculation, some sperm quickly enter the cervix and go beyond the reach of douching solutions. Nor is douching a healthy habit: It may make you more susceptible to irritation, infections, and even sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). That’s because there are certain chemicals and bacteria present in your vagina that help protect you; douching can flush out the “good” bacteria. Bottom line: Don’t douche, unless your health care provider specifically recommends that you do.
