MYTH: Women with diabetes shouldn't risk getting pregnant.
TRUTH: Women with either type of diabetes can have a safe pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby by getting regular exercise, keeping their weight gain in check and working with their doctor to aggressively control their blood sugar levels before and during pregnancy. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends a target A1C (a measure of blood sugar level over two or three months) of less than 6 percent during pregnancy.
