'N Sync Playing the VMAs? 5 Clues That We've Become Stuck in 2001

The boy band will reportedly perform at Sunday's awards. Britney Spears is making new music. Have we traveled back in time?

'N Sync hasn't played at the VMAs since 2001, when they performed "Pop" with Michael Jackson and a giant Etch-a-Sketch. (See below.) Twelve years later, are Justin Timberlake and his ex-bandmates gearing up for a reunion?

Media outlets are reporting that Lass Bance, J.C. Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick may join J.T. onstage at Sunday's ceremony, where he will be receiving the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. The latest word is that MTV producers are "trying to make it happen," which sounds pretty tentative to us.

Nevertheless, we'd love to see these guys harmonize together again. It would really take us back -- although, right now, the early '00s seem to be having a moment. Here are 5 other reasons why 2013 feels a little like 2001.

Destiny's Child reunited and sang "Bootylicious" one last time.

Britney Spears is making headlines -- for good reasons. (Like the Vegas show. And that intriguing countdown clock.)

Mike and Sully were back in theaters.

Christina Aguilera is dressing less Burlesque, more "Genie in a Bottle."

A woman has been tapped to host the Oscars. (In 2001, that woman was Whoopi Goldberg.)

And of course, some things haven't changed at all since 2001: like, we still want to look like Jennifer Aniston. And we still enjoy the tunes of 'N Sync. Make this reunion happen, guys!
