How 3-D Printing Is Taking Nail Art to (Kind of Scary) New Lengths

Designs from The Laser Girls feature crazy talons that take on a accesory vibe

There was a time, not so long ago, when a reverse French manicure was considered edgy. Then came the mainstream acceptance of goth black polish, followed by crazy patterned nail stickers, imaginative and highly detailed nail art designs that have inspired many an Instagram account and even wild nail/finger dip-dyed styles (see Lorde performing at the Grammys Sunday).

But if you really want to make a statement, 3-D printed nails may just be the next big thing. We give a tip of the hat (or should that be fingernail?) to Gizmodo for pointing us to The Laser Girls, a Tumblr site from designers Sarah C. Awad and Dhemerae Ford featuring texturized nails made with materials including nylon and stainless steel-infused bronze that can be applied using glue or an adhesive tape.

They’re not meant for long-term wear, but for around $35-$70 a set, they’re certain to be the most talked about accessory at your next soiree. Here are 11 styles we’d love to take for a spin. Just promise to help us take our contacts out at the end of the night, OK?
