NBC quietly released the network's midseason schedule, and it just happens to be missing one of primetime's most critically acclaimed shows -- Community. Does this mean the cult favorite series won't return to primetime?
Not necessarily. It's common for networks to move certain shows off the schedule to give new and returning series a time slot -- but usually it's not a beloved show like Community. Consistently described as one of the best shows on television, Community was even picked, tying with Modern Family, as TV's best comedy in 2010.
In this case, NBC pulled the sitcom, which follows seven wacky study-group partners at the fictional Greendale Community College, off the midseason slate in order to make room for 30 Rock -- even though it could have easily shelved the freshman sitcom Whitney instead.
According to E! News, the cast and crew at Community are worried by the network's troubling decision. A source close to the show tells E! News that Community staffers are "definitely sweating over being pulled off the schedule, even though they know it's not a cancellation."
The ensemble comedy is now waiting to find out when NBC will find a slot for the series, currently in its third season.
