Neil Patrick Harris Dubs Tony Awards "50 Shades of Gay"

The hilarious host steals the show with his pop-culture jokes Broadway's biggest night

Neil Patrick Harris once again hosted the Tony Awards on CBS and brought his own signature brand of pop-culture comedy. And the lovable host instantly brought down the house when he delivered the evening's most memorable quip: "Welcome to the 66th annual Tony Awards, or, as we like to call it, Fifty Shades of Gay."

The three big winners of the night were Once, which won best musical and seven other awards, Clybourne Park, which was crowned best drama, and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, which took home not only best revival but also best actress in a musical for Audra McDonald.

Accepting her fifth Tony for playing Bess in the critically acclaimed revival, McDonald took a moment to address her 10-year-old daughter: "This is an amazing night for Mommy," she told young Zoe, who was in the audience. "Feb. 14, 2001, when you were born, was the best day of my life."

Other memorable wins included British comedian James Corden picking up a Tony for best actor in a play. Corden beat out such esteemed theater veterans as James Earl Jones, John Lithgow and Phiip Seymour Hoffman with his performance in the farce One Man, Two Guvnors.

He thanked his fiancee Julia Carey, who gave birth to their son five days before the show went into rehearsals. "I can't wait to marry her," he gushed.

Tony fixture Hugh Jackman received a special award from a very special person -- his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, who presented him with a humanitarian award for raising more than $2 million during the 10-week run of his one-man show, Hugh Jackman Back on Broadway, on behalf of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

"She's never been able to keep a secret in her life," Jackman joked about the surprise of seeing his wife as a presenter. He explained that she hates public speaking and had merely told him before appearing on stage: "Off to the loo. See you in a minute."
