The New-Baby Bob

Shortly after giving birth for the first time, Alexis Rodrigo (right, now mom of three), opted to chop off her locks a la January Jones. “It was symbolic of giving up my carefree, self-absorbed days,” Alexis recalls.

For some women, going shorter can be a great option, but it’s not the only one, says Ashley Stone, hairstylist and owner of Salon Alexander in Connecticut. “That short, cropped style may be cute and easy to style, but can you come in every five weeks to maintain it?”

Heidi encourages new moms to play with color instead. You spent all that time choosing a color for the baby’s room—why not spend a few minutes on yourself? “Consult with your stylist and trust her advice based on your hair type and texture,” says Stone.

For Alexis, the look was just right: Though her “baby” is now 15, her hair is still chin length, and she loves it.
