If you think you might be pregnant, you pretty much want as much info as possible ASAP. Now, a new pregnancy test can not only tell you if you are pregnant, but just how pregnant you are, according to Time.com.
The Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator has been available in Europe for about 5 years, but just got FDA approval stateside and hit U.S. store shelves this week.
The test has two strips: One gives you the standard, life-changing pregnant/not pregnant info, but the other measures the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), sometimes referred to as the pregnancy hormone, and uses it to estimate how many weeks ago ovulation occurred. If you're indeed pregnant, you’ll get a range of 1-2, 2-3 or 3+. Note that when your OB/GYN confirms how far along you are, she’ll use the date of your last period, giving you two bonus weeks. In contrast, this test dates your pregnancy from estimated ovulation. So if you get, say, a 2-3 range, that means you are considered 4 to 5 weeks pregnant.
Clearblue says the test is 93 percent accurate in estimating the number of weeks, but ultrasound is still the best way to date a pregnancy. However, until one can occur, usually around or after 8 weeks, this new test can help women with irregular periods find out when they might be due.
