Nickelodeon
Back when my kids watched Dora the Explorer, I remember not being able to tolerate more than five minutes at a time. The show is good for kids, I know, but I just can't stand alternate universes in which there's no jeopardy or irony, and where every inanimate object has a talking face and every creature is angelic at heart. It also creeps me out a little when kid characters talk directly to me through the television (perhaps because I'm usually not wearing pants that time of day).
But younger kids love Dora, so you can imagine their glee after learning that Nickelodeon's hour-long special, Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom, will premiere on Nick Sunday, November 1 at 8 p.m. and on Nick Jr. November 8 at 7 p.m. The special is already available on DVD, but it's so much better with commercials, no?
The orange network will feature preview videos beginning October 26 on the Nick Jr. Web site. Meanwhile, a feature-length DVD called Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure will be released November 3. In this masterpiece, Dora and Swiper travel to the past, present, and future to discover "the true spirit of Christmas." But don’t expect Dora to come upon her own gravestone like in Dickens’ original. (That is, unless we all—including Boots—say "lápida!" together. Can we? Come on, you can do it!)
I don't really mean to be so down on Dora. I'm just getting into a Christmas-like spirit myself. Anyone know how to say "Bah, Humbug" in Spanish?
