Just in time for New Year's resolutions and diets, it's Girl Scout Cookie season! Depending on where you live, local troops are taking orders for Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Peanut Butter Patties and all of our favorites, as well as a brand new cookie: Savanana Smiles.
Citrus fans, get ready! Savannah Smiles are described as a "bite-sized lemon wedge cookies dusted in powdered sugar and bursting with zesty lemon flavor." They are named for the hometown of Girl Scouts of America founder Juliette Gordon Low.
While lemon is a tempting flavor, it's hard to imagine Savannah Smiles stealing the most popular title from Thin Mints, which account for 25 percent of sales, followed by Samoas (also known as Caramel deLites), Peanut Butter Patties (Tagalongs), Peanut Butter Sandwiches (Do-si-dos), and Shortbread (Trefoils). Depending on your region and the baking company used to produce the cookies, many of cookies go by different names.
To find Girl Scout cookies near you, the Girl Scouts' website has a searchable tool that allows you to search by zip code.
