The New Mom's Guide to Digital Cameras

Once you've loaded up your digital camera with memorable photos -- and then downloaded them onto your computer -- what's next? You can email them one or two at a time, but that's a drag when you have 25 great shots to share. And you don't want to max out the storage on someone's free email account. Plus, what do you do about prints?

Never fear: There's an easy solution. Choose an online photo site, upload your pictures and invite family and friends to view your albums via email links. Here's a look at some of the best sites for storing and sharing your photos online.

Ofoto.com: An offshoot of the American photo behemoth Kodak, Ofoto offers an easy and almost universally accessible way to share photos with your friends and family. Just create an account, upload your photos from your computer and invite people to look at them. The best part? It's free. Need hard-copy photos for your scrapbook, or because some older relatives are still computerless? Order prints -- they're processed on Kodak paper and available in a variety of sizes -- and have them sent directly by mail. You can also create calendars, photo cards and more with the pictures you've uploaded. Ofoto now offers a noteworthy mobile service, too. Great for those with camera phones, the mobile option allows you to store cell phone shots on the site, view them from your phone (or home computer) and order prints on the go. It even supports video!

Shutterfly.com: Similar to Ofoto, Shutterfly lets you upload photos to personal photo albums and then invite friends to view them. You can also buy photo-enhanced products on the site, like calendars and cards. (It uses Fuji print processing systems and paper.) Shutterfly offers 15 free prints at sign-up and a prepaid print plan that brings its per-print price slightly lower than Ofoto's standard cost per photo.
