When we heard the news that Marissa Mayer, who made her mark as a Google exec (and its first female engineer), had been named the new CEO of Yahoo, we thought: Cool. She's just 37 and joins only a handful of female leaders at tech companies.
But then we learned Mayer, married to lawyer-turned-investor Zachary Bogue, is also pregnant with her first child, a boy due Oct. 7, and now we're really psyched!
"He's super-active," Mayer told Fortune soon after the Yahoo announcement. "He moves around a lot. My doctor says that he takes after his parents."
Mayer said she let Yahoo's search committee know she was pregnant shortly after being recruited in June, and that her news didn't raise concern among the company's board of directors.
"They showed their evolved thinking," Mayer told the magazine. She'll only take a few weeks of maternity leave (and will "work throughout it"), but with all the talk lately about whether women can or can't have it all, it still feels like a big ol' leap forward for working moms everywhere.
Can we get a yahoo?
