Party Like it's 2011!

I'm (finally!) almost finished with my Christmas shopping and already thinking about New Year's Eve. Whether it's a cocktail party, a sit-down dinner for friends, or a quiet evening for two, I usually can't wait to dress up and break out my best entertaining items. This year, I'm sticking with a metallic theme: silver, gold, platinum and white, with lots of candlelight.

Here are a few other ideas for a memorable evening.

While your guests wait to countdown to midnight, break out the ping pong paddles and clear off the dining room table for a lively game.

Give your guests another reason to celebrate with a creative theme. Maybe it's "Happy New Year's 1962" with a Mad Men- inspired evening. Encourage guests to dress up and serve fun, retro cocktails and food.

Just before midnight, don't forget to pass around the New Year's Eve noisemakers, hats, tiaras and confetti. If you can, create your own balloon drop with some inexpenisve metallic balloons from party store.  (Tip: Make sure you get the metallic confetti that can be picked up with a magnet, otherwise you'll be finding confetti until 2012!)

Have a have happy holiday season and I'll see you in the New Year!
