Nick Cannon Can't Wait to Have Kids with Mariah Carey

For those who thought Mariah Carey’s marriage to Nick Cannon wouldn’t last, you might be surprised to hear the 29-year-old singer-actor-director talking about kids, eternal love and cleaning up his act (or at least his messy laundry!) to keep his superstar wife happy. According to Cannon, their partnership is a success, on both the personal and professional fronts.

Cannon directed Carey's latest music videos, "Angels Cry" and "Up Out My Face." And he made People’s Choice Awards viewers say, "Awww," last month when he gallantly helped Carey with the trouble-making train of her evening gown.

This week, Cannon gives Entertainment Weekly a glimpse into his private life with Carey. As Cannon tells EW, his marriage to Carey, 40, began with a secret Bahamian wedding in April 2008 and is a true union of soul mates. “There were people who were for it and there were more people who were against,” Cannon says. “You have to ask the question: Is your heart more important than your career? Absolutely. I was like, If I don’t do anything else ever again in the entertainment industry, I’m in love with this woman.”

But even love isn’t enough to keep the peace at home when Cannon fails to pick up after himself: “She hates when I’m messy when it has to do with her nice stuff. Like, I can’t throw my jacket on the Marilyn Monroe piano -- but I do.”

Is having kids with Carey in Cannon’s plans? Yes, he says emphatically, adding that one of his biggest goals is to “have a happy family and have some little Cannons running around.” What's more, he's determined to have a "normal" clan, not a Hollywood one -- in other words, no Louis Vuitton diapers for his kids, thanks. Says Cannon, “Me and my wife talk about it all the time. As much as there are private jets and champagne everywhere, I want them to understand that’s not what life is about. I’ve met quite a few grounded people who were born into situations like this. We look at those types of examples. I always admired the Kardashian family. They are normal. They’re a family that really loves each other. Or the Osbournes.”
