There's Ozzfest, Lilith Fair, Bonnaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza, but why don’t children get a musical extravaganza for their own generation? (Maybe because parents are too scared by the thought of souvenir prices?) Well, Nickelodeon noticed the gap too, and is filling it with the Nickelodeon Mega Music Fest.
Playing live in New York City on May 22 and airing as an hour-long TV special this summer, the concert brings together top performers, kid bands, animated Nickelodeon characters and celebrities, including John Leguizamo (who hosts the show), Sherri Shepherd, Colbie Caillat, Wyclef Jean, The Roots, The Fresh Beat Band, The Laurie Berkner Band, Dora the Explorer, and the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba!
Nickelodeon hopes the Mega Music Fest, which will combine live-action performances and original animation in special duets, will become an annual event. But to be clear, this is no Kids' Choice Awards. Don't expect Beyonce, Lady Gaga, or Adam Sandler to show up... and don't expect your tween to tune in either. This 'palooza is purely for preschoolers -- the kind of kids who don't need an outdoor rock concert to play in the mud, and are more familiar with mashed peas than mosh pits.
What is your preschooler’s favorite musical act? Chime in now!
