Nicki's Five-Year "Overnight" Success

Best new artist nominee Nicki Minaj has been around for nearly five years, so like most of the best new artist nominees, she's hardly an overnight success. While her debut disc, Pink Friday, earned her the Academy's attention, she's collaborated on tracks with artists as diverse as Lil Wayne, Will.I.Am and Mariah Carey since 2007. But 2011 was decidedly her year, as she appeared on Saturday Night Live, worked with Britney Spears and Madonna, and climbed the charts with hits like "Your Love" and "Moment 4 Life." 2012 should also be stellar for the singer -- Following her appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 5, she debuts her new single "Roman Holiday" on the Grammy stage.
