How did Weston Cage's marriage go this bad in just three months? Nicolas Cage's son has announced that he is divorcing Nikki Williams, the 22-year-old musician he married in New Orleans on Easter Sunday. Weston, 20, has also accused his wife of abusing him, and is hinting that she may be pregnant. What on Earth is going on?
The first thing you need to know is that, according to E! Online, Cage and Williams were both arrested on charges of domestic violence this past weekend. Both sustained injuries; Weston emerged from jail with a bloody, bandaged arm, advising paparazzi: "Don't get married." He later wrote on Nikki's Facebook page that the whole thing happened "because of alcohol," and that he was on his way to pay his wife's bail.
"I WOULD NEVER ATTACK MY WIFE," Cage wrote to his wife's concerned friends. "SHE WAS ABOUT TO HURT HER SELF AND HAD TO RESTRAIN HER HANDS. BROKEN BEER BOTTLES, A GASH ON MY ARM, BITE MARKS, NAIL MARK TRAILS, BRUISES AND A CONTUSION ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD? FINE I STILL LOVE YOU NIKKI GOING TO PAY 50,000 FOR YOU."
Which brings us to today. In a video posted on his own Facebook page, Cage says that he's leaving his wife because she abuses him.
"Traditionally, the person that is abused or attacked or victimized is a woman, usually breaks up with the other," says Cage to the camera. "This is hard to believe: I was the one who was abused. I've got three witnesses, a video recording. I was sober."
He then flashes divorce papers.
"Whatever. I'm not gonna be the one who gets dumped. Because it just wouldn't make sense. Why would I abuse the person I was trying to save?"
Next to the video, Cage has posted a poll for his friends: VOTE ON THE DIVORCE. YES OR NO?
The video post accompanies a series of cryptic wall posts about his relationship: One implies that Nikki beat him because she has a drinking problem; another says that she "was positive after taking a pregnant-c test."
Oddly, Weston's new wife shows no signs of distress on her own social networking accounts. Her Twitter page contains nothing but chatty revelations about her diet, her new record and dates with her husband. Is one of them in denial, perhaps? And if so, which one? Hopefully they find a way to resolve this with minimal damage to all parties involved -- especially if one of those parties is a baby.
