Keith Urban is a lucky man. He had the love of his life (and his no. 1 fan!) by his side to share in a special milestone in his recovery from throat surgery last winter.
The country star's wife Nicole Kidman was right there when he spoke first words after the surgery. In an interview with W magazine, Kidman says the "profound" experience strengthened their marital bond.
After Urban's throat surgery to remove a polyp, the Grammy winner had to endure three weeks of total silence to heal properly. He was forbidden to speak at all, and they both worried what his voice would sound like once he was allowed to talk again.
"To go without his voice, and then to finally hear [it]. What if he sounded different?" Kidman, 44, admitted. "I was there for his first words, and then we cried."
Added the Australian Academy Award winner: "How many people experience their husband's first words? All of those things make you closer...If that doesn't bring you closer, you're not breathing."
Urban has also expressed the depth of his love for wife Kidman.
"[Nicole is] an extremely pure spirit. A really, really extraordinarily rare, I think, pure spirit," Urban told ABC before his November surgery. "I'll spend the rest of my life trying to find the right words because, you know, words are limiting."
