Expectant celebs are usually coy about their baby name choices -- keeping them well under wraps until after the baby is born while the rest of us wait, impatiently, to pass judgment. But not Snooki! The Jersey Shore star has confirmed to USA Today (after castmates inadvertently spilled the secret during an interview) that she and fiance Jionni LaValle plan to name their baby boy... Lorenzo!
Snooki already shared that Lorenzo and Jionni Jr. were the couple's top two contenders, and frankly, we're a little relieved that they've chosen the former. Sure, the double" L" alliteration is a love-it-or-hate-it thing, but we happen to think that Lorenzo, which is a Latin name meaning "man from Laurentum" (an ancient city in present-day Italy) and is used in Italian and Spanish, is a super-cute moniker for a kid whose parents both have Italian heritage. Plus, the nickname possibilities -- Ren, Renzo -- are way better than the boring old "JJ" (or worse, Junior) that the kid would likely be saddled with if he shared his Dad's name.
Lorenzo also fits into the normal-but-not-common rubric that seems to be the baby-naming ideal for so many parents: It's currently the 310th most popular boy name in the country, according to Social Security Administration's list of popular baby names. (That's down from a high of 267 in 1985 -- likely attributable to Lorenzo Lamas!)
Still, we're not sure Snooki should have been so quick to confirm the name. After all, how many parents fall in love with a moniker, only to actually meet their baby and realize that he or she doesn't fit the name at all? We can only image how much monogrammed baby swag Snooks and Jionni are going to get now, so for the little guy's sake, we sure hope they don't have a change of heart.
