Looking for something inexpensive to do this Valentine's Day? How about convincing your man to sit through a romantic movie with you? If you can do it, you know he's a keeper!
Nights in Rodanthe comes out on DVD today, and I promise it's worth checking out.
The film follows single mother Adrienne (Diane Lane) as she tries to move on from her husband's infidelity, while also debating if she should go back to him. When a close friend goes out of town, Adrienne takes on the responsibility of taking care of the inn, and in turn, taking care of the inn's one and only guest, Paul (Richard Gere).
Yes, it features all the typical corniness of two people finding themselves and falling in love. But, what's nice is that both characters are older, which we don't see very often. And while this movie is no Notebook, it is based on a book by the same author, Nicholas Sparks, so the romance is still there. I'll even admit that I got teary eyed while viewing the film, which to me means it's a good chick flick.
Of course, if you've seen Must Love Dogs or that little-known movie called Pretty Woman, you already know that Diane and Richard score high on the romance scale. And if you've seen Unfaithful, you know they have onscreen chemistry as well.
If you didn't get a chance to see Nights in Rodanthe in the theaters, check out the DVD when you persuade your man to watch it with you... or perhaps the next time you have a girls night in. -- Jacki Garfinkel
