Sometimes it seems like all celebrity relationships happen on fast-forward. Jessica Simpson, Drew Barrymore and Natalie Portman are among the latest stars to start their families (or at least get pregnant before) walking down the aisle. But Nikki Reed is one celeb who plans on taking things slow.
"Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like it's a mistake for people to get married and then just [have kids right away]," Reed, 24, recently told People. "I feel like it is the pressure of the family making them do it."
The Twilight star, who married American Idol alum Paul McDonald last October, said she's enjoying the time they have right now as a couple.
"We want to travel and be able to fly on an airplane without a baby and just have freedom," said the actress, adding that right now she and her husband just don't have the time for rugrats. "It's been a little stressful [lately] because it's been so busy. Paul's been recording his album full time, and I've been shooting, so we're both very busy right now."
Ironically, Reed and McDonald, 27, didn't waste any time when it came to saying "I do." After meeting at the Red Riding Hood film premiere last March, they became engaged in June and married four months later. Even so, there's no reason to rush having kids -- especially when they're still building a life together.
"We try to stay together as much as we can," McDonald explained to People of how they keep their relationship solid. "I'll [sometimes] go to set with her and she'll come with me to the studio."
"You just have to make the other person a priority over your work, which is a very controversial statement, I guess," Reed agreed. "People, especially in this business, don't think that's a good idea, but that's what you have to do."
Then again, it must help that their work sometimes overlaps! Reed, who is also a singer, has recorded several very sweet duets with her husband. (Watch a video of their latest, below.) Maybe in a few years, it will be a family band?
