'Norma Rae' (1979)

Norma Rae (Sally Field) works at a cotton mill in a small Alabama town, where she’s underpaid and subjected to horrible working conditions. When she decides to stop taking orders and fight for fair treatment, her efforts get her fired -- leading to the iconic image of Field standing on her work table with a hand-made cardboard sign that says “Union.” Norma Rae (which received four Oscar nominations, including best picture, and a best actress win for Field) was inspired by real-life hero Crystal Lee Sutton, who won union representation for her fellow workers and then became a professional union organizer. Norma Rae, Norma Rae!
