Release Date: Dec. 3 In a Nutshell: Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky puts a teensy twist on the classic holiday ballet, turning it into a dystopian Nazi fantasy about a rat king (John Turturro) looking to take over the world and enslave its inhabitants. Rated: R For You: Turturro, Nathan Lane, and Elle Fanning (Dakota's little sister) lead an interesting ensemble for an even more interesting (albeit also rather horrifying) concept. Here's hoping it doesn't taint the holiday warm-and-fuzzies we get from that wonderful music. For Kids: This is one Nutcracker you should see without the youngsters. Sugar plum fairies and charming Russian dances are overshadowed by the Holocaust nightmares conjured up by a Hitler-esque rodent.
