Wow. One of the Most Amazing Birth Photos We've Ever Seen

We're stunned by this powerful family photo from the 'National Geographic' Photo Contest 2011.

There are no photos or videos of either of my sons actually being born -- and that's how I wanted it. To my mind, in that crowning moment of birth, everyone in the room -- doctor, doula, husband -- already had a job to do, and clicking away with a camera wasn't it.

But this amazing photo by Lynsey Stone, titled "I Love You Baby!" kind of makes me wish I'd reconsidered. The black-and-white pic of a mom and dad birthing their son into the world at home is an entry in the National Geographic Photo Contest 2011.

I don't think I've ever seen a picture more elegantly capture the joy and pain of birth. (In fact, it's so elegant it makes me wonder: Where's the blood?! I know I didn't look so no-hair-out-of-place perfect during labor.) Still, I love the image of this strong mama. To me, this one's a winner -- even if it doesn't capture the National Geographic prize.
