Oprah Winfrey must know how much we've missed her "Favorite Things." After The Oprah Winfrey Show went off the air last spring, Winfrey presented her annual selection of the year's most exciting products in the pages of O magazine -- but it just wasn't the same. Thankfully, "Oprah's Favorite Things" is about to return to the airwaves, with a two-hour special premiering Sunday, Nov. 18th on OWN.
The new special, alas, won't feature a studio audience full of screaming Oprah fanatics. (Watch the clip below if you've forgotten how crazy the "Favorite Things" crowd can get!) But Winfrey will still be surprising some of America's most deserving folks with the gift basket of a lifetime. Past "Favorite Things" recipients have included schoolteachers and Hurricane Katrina relief workers, and this year, Oprah will be paying tribute to military spouses from each branch of the Armed Forces. The special will also feature a behind-the-scenes look at how the "Favorite Things" list comes together, as well as opportunities for viewers to "watch and win" gifts by texting during the show.
You have to wonder, though: by bringing back an old Oprah Winfrey Show standby, is Oprah throwing in the towel on the ambitious OWN network? No way, she tells Harper's Bazaar in a new interview -- it's exactly the opposite.
"What was missing from OWN was me," says the talk-show legend of her struggling network. "It required my full-on energy. You know, this past year has been challenging, but it's also been one of the greatest experiences for me getting to know me... seeing the space between where I am and where I want to go. It's pretty wide! But having the faith to take the leap anyway and knowing that no matter where you land, it's going to be okay. And I feel really good that I did."
And what can we expect from her "Favorite Things" this year? The official press release brags about the "electronic gadget that everyone will be clamoring for" and "sweet treats that can put anyone in the holiday spirit." But in Harper's Bazaar, Oprah says her two favorite things right now are 50 Shades of Grey... and taking baths. "Oh, I've got all the Shades, for the time I can take some guilty pleasure and just read," she says. "But I'm thinking, Stop with the story, get to the juicy part!"
As for bathing, which she describes as her "hobby," Winfrey says, "I love creating bathing experiences -- bath gels, bubbles, crystals, salts, lavender milks. I go prune. I go waaaay prune. I've gone to sleep." Sleeping in the bathtub: one of Oprah's favorite things!
