Oprah's not gone yet!" That's what I want to yell every time someone brings up the rumor that Rosie O'Donnell may return to daytime TV and take over O's timeslot.
As a die-hard Oprah fan, I feel the need to remind everyone that the talk-show hostess with the mostess has more than a year left! She isn't leaving Oprah until Sept. 9, 2011! So let's celebrate what's on daytime TV right now: Oprah, as well as her very worthy competitor, Ellen DeGeneres.
Though Oprah will always be No. 1 in my mind, Ellen is a very close second. Both women are talk-show queens and role models in their own right. While dance-loving Ellen has mastered the art of making her guests laugh (while regularly getting her own audience to make her laugh), Oprah is often a master at making her guests and audiences cry -- and I mean that in a good way. Oprah can elicit emotion like no one else, making every story hit close to home for her viewers. I could even go so far as to argue that Oprah makes us better people (hello, have you seen her No Phone Zone pledge?!). And then there's Ellen, the veteran standup comic who makes us want to smile and dance on a daily basis. But even with all the silly humor and belly laugh-inducing games, Ellen also has a serious side: no question, she stands up for what she believes in.
With these two talented ladies at the peak of their TV careers, this just may be the second coming of the golden era of daytime talk (let's not forget Phil Donahue!). While we still have these influential women on air, who would you choose as the reigning queen of daytime TV -- Oprah or Ellen?
