When Is It Okay to Let Your Kids Start Dating? - I Say When They Turn 40!

iVillage was part of a fabulous parenting roundtable on TODAY where we tackled teen dating, exposure to violent video games and other issues we know you are talking about with your friends too!

Of course, I'm joking when I say I won't let my girls (ages 6 1/2 and 5) start dating until they're 40! Still, I can't imagine what my lovely and quite overprotective hubby will be like when prospective suitors come calling hopefully no sooner than several years from now. Seriously though, when would you let your teen start dating or when did you let your teenager(s) start?

That was just one of the provocative topics I had the pleasure of discussing with four fabulous, super smart, hilarious and delightful women on TODAY Friday morning, including anchor Tamron Hall, TV personality and blogger Rene Syler, author, pundit and mom of six Rachel Campos-Duffy and pediatrician Dr. Lisa Thornton. It was as if we were just sitting around talking with a bunch of gal pals and the cameras happened to be rolling.

Here we dish about dating but also when is it okay to let your kid quit an activity or a sport, and when is it okay to expose your child to violent games and toys. My answer to that last one -- never!

We also talked about when is it okay to cry in front of your kids (I say it's always okay!) and when is it okay to share intimate details about your marriage with your kids. Are we talking sharing our sex lives? Oh yes, that was the question!

What do you think? I bet you have some strong opinions to some or all of the above!

And check out this edition of The Conversation Thread where real moms debate when is it okay to push your kids.
