chime in nowMichelle is big on heading to the consignment store and buying clothes and shoes used -- and there’s certainly no shortage of hand-me-downs in their house. “It took us seven years to get debt free,” said Michelle, whose take on budgeting is “buy used and save the difference.” In fact, Michelle calls it the family motto. How to make it work for you: Organize a toy swap! Get a bunch of moms together (with kids of varying ages) on a Sunday am -- someone brings coffee, someone brings bagels, everyone brings the outgrown toys taking up space in their closets and basements. Each family trades in their old toys for more age appropriate options. Donate everything that's left over to charity.
