Paris Hilton has always had a talent for getting out of sticky situations (or at least, profiting from them -- remember that sex tape?). Still, we thought for sure that her consequence-free life was catching up to her when she was caught red-handed with cocaine in Las Vegas. There was even that incriminating Twitter picture that seemed to prove that her excuse ("It's not my purse") was a big fat lie. But of course, we underestimated the power of Paris: Three weeks after her arrest, she's struck a plea deal that will get her off with no trial or jail time.
Here's how it works. The 29-year-old socialite will plead guilty to two misdemeanors: Drug possession (for, you know, having the cocaine) and obstructing an officer (for lying about the purse). Afterwards, she'll be placed on probation for a year, meaning that if she's arrested again in the next year -- which, given her recent track record, doesn't seem that unlikely -- she'll have to serve a full year in jail.
Hilton will also need to complete a substance abuse program, do 200 hours of community service, and pay a $2000 fine (oh please -- that Chanel purse probably cost more than that).
We love the idea of the heiress doing community service, the nature of which has yet to be determined -- but in point of fact, we can't think of anything worse than the farm chores she did voluntarily back in her The Simple Life days. And even if she does go to jail -- well heck, she's been there before. It's starting to become clear that Hilton is truly untouchable; she's been through sex tapes, arrests, jail time and malicious gossip, and nothing can bring her down. She just floats through life on her cloud of money, not caring what anyone thinks. We're not sure if this is admirable or despicable -- but we sure are jealous.
