Party with a Theme

If you’ve had Academy Awards parties before and you’re really itching to raise your game (or just change things up a bit), consider making yours a theme bash. You could throw a vintage Oscar party. Choose a favorite year of previous nominees (or a favorite decade, if you want to make things a bit easier) and invite your guests to come dressed as one of the actors. Things are always fun when you have an Elizabeth Taylor, a Charlie Chaplin or a Marlon Brando in the house. You can also tailor your decor, food and drinks to reflect the time period.

If old-school isn’t your thing, you can host a black-and-white Oscar party. “That can be elegant, and it’s not kitschy,” says Langdon. “And it’s easy, because everyone has a black outfit or a white outfit.” Decorate your whole space in black and white, as well, and the drama of your soiree is sure to match the drama on the TV.
