At this point in his legendary career, Sir Paul McCartney can do pretty much anything he wants -- so why not get two of the biggest actors in the world to star in his new video? Directed by the ex-Beatle himself, the "My Valentine" video stars Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp, each performing in sign language while lip-synching to McCartney's moody ballad. Watch below!
Here are a few fun facts about the video, courtesy of McCartney's website:
1. Natalie Portman is wearing a dress by Paul's fashion-designer daughter Stella McCartney, who came up with the concept for the video.
2. This is the second Paul McCartney music video that Portman has starred in. In 2007, she appeared in "Dance Tonight," directed by Michel Gondry.
3. Yes, Johnny Depp is actually playing that guitar solo. He recorded it live for this version; on the original, the solo was recorded by Eric Clapton. (But no pressure, Johnny!)
4. The actors filmed their videos separately, each performing the song in a single long shot. The final video features the two performances cut together.
And if you think the music video was star-studded, wait until you get a load of the guest list for last Friday night's premiere party! Hosted by Stella McCartney, the event attracted literally dozens of Hollywood A-listers, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Reese Witherspoon, Jane Fonda, Zooey Deschanel, Gwen Stefani, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr and Kristen Stewart. (The Hollywood Reporter gossips that Stewart "spent most of the night hiding in a corner, looking like she felt very out of place." Sounds about right!)
But the guest of honor was Paul McCartney's new wife Nancy Shevell, who was reportedly by his side the whole night. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, "it's clear who inspired 'My Valentine.'"
The song is one of two McCartney originals to appear on Paul's jazz covers album Kisses on the Bottom, which came out in February of this year. To see McCartney performing "My Valentine" live, check out his YouTube page.
