The next generation of Jersey Shore continues! One month after Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi celebrated her son Lorenzo's first birthday, DJ "Pauly D" DelVecchio has revealed that he, too, is a parent. His little girl, reportedly named Amabella, is living with her mother in Atlantic City.
Here's the most surprising part: Pauly's daughter is said to be "a few months old." From what we've gleaned from news reports, the reality star didn't really have a relationship with the girl's mother; TMZ says they "hooked up" while Pauly was DJing in Las Vegas last year. It sounds like Pauly didn't know about the child until recently, and was waiting to get the result of the DNA test (which TMZ confirms is a match).
"[He] wasn't exactly planning for it to happen this way, but God works in mysterious ways," a friend told E! News, adding that Pauly is "hoping to develop a relationship" with the mother.
As for Pauly, he says that he's ready to step up. "I'm proud I'm a father," he tells TMZ. "I am excited to embark on this new part of my life."
Equally excited: Pauly's Jersey Shore castmates!
""I'm so happy for Pauly," Snooki told E! News. "Definitely a shock to all of us, but we know Pauly the best and he's going to be an amazing father. He's so loving and caring. I can't wait for Lorenzo and her to play!"
Jenni "JWoww" Farley concurs, telling E! that she was "crying" when she heard the news, and that "he's going to be the best dad ever." And Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola offered her congrats over Twitter:
So happy for @DJPaulyD !! Sending my love— Samantha Giancola (@SammiSweetheart) October 22, 2013
This may not be the way Pauly D imagined becoming a father, but we think it will be good for him! For one thing, having a daughter will (hopefully) encourage him to respect women a little bit more -- even the "grenades." As a DJ, he lives a pretty transient life, so having a family to come home to will probably make him feel more grounded. (Plus, he's the only cast member who made a decent income before Jersey Shore, so his baby mama can rest easy that she'll have some financial stability.) And little Amabella will have a terrifically wacky group of aunts and uncles right there in Jersey. Maybe Snooki will give her some of Lorenzo's leopard-print hand-me-downs?
Pauly will have a lot to learn about fatherhood, but he may already know a few things -- like how to use his "dad voice."
We recommend this one for practice: "Get your shoes on! Your mom and I don't have all day!"
