PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Tents

Recall date: November 16, 2012

Name of product:
PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Tents

The Hazard:
Babies and toddlers can become entrapped between the edge of the inflatable air mattress and the fabric sides of the tent, posing a suffocation hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission knows of the death of one baby who was found was his face pressed against the side of the tent (although the cause of death was undetermined); as well as nine other children in the U.S. and Canada who reportedly become entrapped or experienced "physical distress" while in the travel beds.

The recall involves about 220,000 travel tents -- small, portable sleep tents with a zippered side -- manufactured by KidCo Inc., of Libertyville, Ill. The travel beds were designed for use from birth to about 3 years, and were sold at specialty children's stores and online at from January 2005 through the present for about $70 to $100. Recalled travel beds have the following model numbers and corresponding tent fabric colors: P100Teal, P101Red, P102Lime, P103Periwinkle, P104Ocean, P201Princess/Red, P202Camouflage, P203Quick Silver, P204Sagebrush, P205Cardinal, P900CSGreen. The model number can be found on a tag on the underside of the product.

What to do: Consumers should stop using the recalled travel tents immediately and contact KidCo to get a free repair kit, which includes a thinner replacement air mattress and braces to strengthen the sides of the beds. Call KidCo at (855) 847-8600, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit to request the kit.
