You know that moment when you're watching an awards show and your favorite singer/actor/set designer loses, and you shout at the TV, "Who votes for these things"?
Ahem. Hopefully you're a little less high-strung than we are. But the point is, the People's Choice Award Nominations have been announced, and this time it's up to you. You get to vote. Online. Anonymously, even! What's not to love?
Here are a few of the movie stars whose fate is in your hands:
Favorite Movie Actor:
Longtime favorites Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Hugh Jackman are competing with up-and-comers Robert Pattinson (who's known for, oh, one movie) and Ryan Reynolds (who's been good in a lot of things, but lacks a single breakout role).
Favorite Action Star:
It's the buff versus the scrawny, as Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel face off against Christian Bale and Shia LaBeouf. We'll call Hugh Jackman the middle ground here.
Favorite Breakout Movie Actress:
Hannah Montana fans will be conflicted: Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment are both nominated. Big Love's Ginnifer Goodwin, Twilight's Anna Kendrick and Star Trek's Zoe Saldana represent the non-Disney Channel contingent.
Favorite Breakout Movie Actor:
It's a Kirk vs. Spock showdown with Star Trek's Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto both nominated. With the Trekkie vote split, odds seem good for Twilight's Taylor Lautner, but it could go to Terminator: Salvation's Sam Worthington or (500) Days of Summer's Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who's three roles past "breakout," in our humble opinion).
And we haven't even gotten to the TV awards (there's a category for Favorite TV Obsession) or the music awards (Susan Boyle vs. Lady Gaga!). Vote in all categories at the People's Choice Web site, then be very patient until the winners are announced on January 6th.
