WATCH: Emma Watson Cuts Loose in 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' Trailer

The actress shows off her wild side -- and her American accent -- in her meatiest role since the Harry Potter saga ended in November

Hermione Granger is all grown up, and she's a bit of a free spirit. In September's buzzed-about indie The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Emma Watson sheds the reticence (and flowing locks) of her Harry Potter alter-ego and embraces her wild side. In the span of the two-and-a-half-minute trailer alone, she drinks beer out of a Solo cup, dances suggestively at a party, car-surfs on the flatbed of a pickup truck, and entertains a crowd with a burlesque performance at a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening. Oh, and she shows off her (very believable) American accent. Watch below!

The film, based on Stephen Chbosky's critically acclaimed novel, follows a group of teens -- including Watson as free-spirited Sam; Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief's Logan Lerman as Charlie, the narrator and titular "wallflower"; and We Need to Talk About Kevin's Ezra Miller as Sam's gay half-brother Patrick -- as they grapple with adolescence and search for some sense of identity.

The movie marks Watson's meatiest role since the Harry Potter saga came to an end in November and should offer some sense as to whether she'll be able to shine outside of the boy-wizard franchise. We're not worried for her: Judging by the trailer, a wallflower is one thing Watson will never become.
