Using furniture from other parts of the house is a fun seasonal change, so I positioned a sofa table to act as a sideboard and a small occasional table to fill a bare space next to the window. I played curator with some still-life paintings of harvest motifs, propping two up against the wall on the sideboard so they'd be easy to change later, then hanging a third alongside (I made sure the tops of all three were aligned). I find it best to place the tallest elements first -- in this case, a silver vase filled with apple branches on one end of the sideboard. Next to the apple branch vase I placed wine-filled glass decanters on a silver tray. An antique metal clock sat slightly off center near a bowl of fresh fruit.
