Peter Facinelli Admits Co-Parenting with Ex Is "Day by Day" Challenge

The actor says he and ex-wife Jennie Garth are working together to raise their three daughters

Peter Facinelli reveals that parenting with his ex-wife Jennie Garth isn't exactly easy -- but they're making it work.

"When you're going through it yourself, you have to take it day by day," Facinelli says about raising his three daughters Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5, with Garth, whom he split from in March after 11 years of marriage and more than 15 together.

The Twilight actor, 38, tells People that he and his girls spend a lot of time in the outdoors together, going on roadtrips, camping and making s'mores.

"I take the girls RV-ing all the time," he says. "There's a lot of s'mores-making and singing by the campfire."

Facinelli explains that these adventures in the great oudoors are necessary for escaping the stresses of life in the fast-paced industry.

"It's something about being in the woods," he says. "It slows everything down and you're a part of nature and just spending time with your family. It's pretty great."

And making the girls rough it is mutually beneficial for the father of three. "They bring out my sensitive side and I toughen them up a little bit," he says.

Garth, 40, who recently lost 30 pounds in an effort to find herself post-split, told People she and Facinelli are still the parents they always were -- just not in the same house. "Peter and I are great parents together," she said.

Ultimately, Facinelli agrees. "Co-parenting takes two great parents to put their differences aside and focus on the children," he says. "And that's what I've been doing."
