It's been just three weeks since Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth announced that they're divorcing after 11 years of marriage. Fortunately, they seem to have crammed a lot of healing into that short amount of time, at least according to the Twilight star.
"Jen and I are doing really well," Facinelli, 38, told Kelly Ripa while guest-hosting Wednesday's episode of Live! With Kelly, adding that what's most important to the former couple right now is maintaining some semblance of normalcy for the sake of their three daughters: Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5.
"We're very dedicated to being great parents," he said. "It's very painful to break up with somebody. It's even more painful when it's played out in the media."
According to Facinelli, the divorce is actually Ripa's fault... sort of.
He teased that it was only after he came on Live! With Kelly back in February and took part in a "Girls' Night Out" segment -- even donning a blonde wig for the skit -- that his marriage fell apart.
"I woke up two weeks later in Mexico, and then I got a divorce," Facinelli joked.
"That's when it all went wrong, I think," Ripa agreed.
Garth isn't quite at the joking-around stage, though. In recent interviews, she's admitted that she tried her hardest to save her marriage.
"I was very resistant (to a divorce)," she said in March. "I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."
But despite rumors to the contrary, Garth and Facinelli insist that cheating had nothing to do with their decision to call it quits.
"There are rumors out there which are completely untrue and hurtful to our family," they told People in a joint statement. "We just want to make it very clear -- there are no third parties involved."
