"I'm Oprah Winfrey, and welcome to the very first national Oprah Winfrey Show!" That's how a breathless, big-haired Oprah introduced her landmark show on Sept. 8, 1986. The day's topic? "Marrying the Right Person." The audience was tiny -- only 26 people -- but a then-unknown Oprah recruited them herself, going out on the street and saying, "Come in! It's air-conditioned." Little did that audience know that in just a few years, Oprah would be a household name -- and they were there to see history in the making!
