Pin It! Who to Follow on Pinterest This Fashion Week

Get inspired for fall 2012 by following these fashion influencers on Pinterest--and pinning your favorite looks

Waiting eagerly for those September issues to find out what’s hot for fall? Yeah, us neither. You don’t have to be front-row anymore to see what’s coming down the runway right as it happens—you just need an internet connection.

For Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 we’re looking at what the fashion world’s influencers (and their young, fresh counterparts) are posting on virtual pinboard site Pinterest. Here’s who we’re following to get the latest on the collections:

Nina Garcia (ninagarcia)

The Marie Claire Fashion Director and Project Runway judge breaks down her boards into pages that are as easy to absorb as a magazine spread. Her Accessories board is heavy on the shoe close-ups, and she’s put together separate boards for more general trends, including Burgundy (AKA The New Black), Patent Leather, and Military.

CFDA (cfda)

Sometimes bigger is better, especially when it comes to Fashion Week—being part of the powerful Council of Fashion Designers of America guarantees access to some hot tickets. Original shots of dozens of shows are a refreshing change of visual (if a little heavy on the Instagram) and their NY Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 board features plenty of smaller presentations from Council designers as well as the big shows.

Coco Rocha (cocorocha)

Model and social-media maven Rocha has a unique perspective on the shows, sharing everything from watching from the front row and going backstage before walking herself. She loves pinning great shots of her model buds and coveted items, but we love her NYFW Via My iPhone board, a true peek into the life of an industry insider.

Refinery 29 (refinery29)

This site is one of our go-to stops for fashion gossip and news, so it’s no surprise their Pinterest site is equally up-to-date. With a mix of runway shots, street-style photos, and personal coverage from the editors’ phones, there’s some great insight into the feel of the shows at their NY Fashion Week 2012 board.

Stylebistro (stylebistro)

This celeb-inspired site is great at playing one of our favorite games—you know, imagining which actress will wear which fabulously over-the-top runway gown on the red carpet? They’ve pulled a great selection of their favorite images from the past few days and posted them on their Fashion Week board, heavy on the elegant dresses and chic suits.

Barneys (barneysny)

At the end of the day, we do end up buying our clothes from stores, not fashion editors, so following some retailers can actually give you a clearer idea of what you’re likely to see in stock in the coming months. Trendsetting department store Barneys has stepped up their social media presence in a big way recently, and their From the Runway page is full of great, wearable looks.

Glitter Guide (glitterguide)

Every girl likes a little glitter, right? And if not glitter, we at least want to glow with the satisfaction of being right on trend. We love the bright colors and chic separates featured from the runway shows on the NYFW Fall 2012 page, and fun details shots of bags, shoes, nails, and makeup help complete the picture of the fall runway styles.

Stylelist (stylelist)

When we saw Stylist's entire board devoted to Jason Wu, we knew we’d found our people. The site’s NYFW page focuses on highlighting the first look of all the hottest runway shows (historically, that’s the outfit that sets the tone for the bulk of the collection and often features models who go on to superstar status) as well as the hair & makeup of some of our fave beauty looks.

Tory Burch (toryburch)

Want to know our best fashion secret? Every year around early December, look out for the Pantone Color of the Year report—inevitably, the colors featured will be popping up on runways near you in a matter of months. The color for 2012 is a particular shade of orange called Tangerine Tango, and Tory Burch has put together one of our favorite inspiration boards around this very color. After all, no one knows how to do fashion inspiration like fashion designers!
