If you’ll be apart for the actual holiday, but you still have your heart set on opening gifts together in your PJs, there’s nothing wrong with picking a different day to do that, says Dobrenski. After all, you’ve got eight days of Chanukah and 12 days of Christmas to choose from. “It’s a way to say ‘I respect your space, but let’s also create some traditions of our own,’” he adds.
