Okay, so I may have abused the whole "Santa saw that!" threat over the years. But can you blame me? I was raised on a steady diet of coal-in-the-stocking stories. Plus it’s right there in the song: You’d better watch out, you better not cry, you better not shout, I’m telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town!
The thing is, every Christmas-celebrating parent I know plays the Santa card, even though we all know its an empty threat. If little Susie doesn’t stop hitting her brother, we aren’t really going to schlep back to Target to return her roller skates. She’s getting those skates unless she sets the house on fire and they burn along with everything else.
But parenting is tough, and kids doing what they're told doesn't come easily. So if, for a few blessed weeks a year, we lord a jolly guy with a sack full of loot over their little heads to get what we want, I say there are far worse crimes being committed. At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Do you use the "Santa's watching" threat to get your kids to behave? Chime in below!
