Poltergeist

The movie starts with some semi-believable paranormal activity. The ghosts of the house start by communicating with Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) through the static of a television, (a popular theory is that entities will manipulate white noise to produce real words) and items move within the home, including chairs stacking in the kitchen. Then all hell breaks loose -- Robbie (Oliver Robins) gets attacked by a tree that tries to eat him, Carol Anne gets sucked into another dimension through her television, a clown doll comes to life and pulls Robbie under the bed, (a scene which I personally have never recovered from), and a snarling skeletal demon appears out of a portal from the kids' closet. One of the best scary movies ever made? Yes. Loosely based on actual paranormal phenomena? Yes. Realistic? Absolutely not.
