Nothing says summer like lounging poolside with a fruity, umbrella-topped cocktail in hand, but creamy and blended drinks such as margaritas and piña coladas are made with sugary mixes and can pack up to 600 calories each, says Stadler. If that wasn’t enough, hot weather and alcohol are both dehydrating -- and research shows that when you’re dehydrated your body actually retains water, which can make you look puffy and bloated.

Smart solution: To stay slim, Stadler advises skipping the booze and sticking to water. Want something more exciting? Make a refreshing low-cal mocktail by combining six ounces of sparkling water with two ounces of any fresh juice. Stuck on spirits? “When you do have alcohol, limit yourself to one drink, and opt for a glass of red or white wine or a light beer, which will only run around 100 calories,” suggests Stadler.
