This takes "snap, crackle and pop" to a whole new level (sorry, little Rice Krispies dudes).
Post’s new Poppin’ Pebbles cereal contains the same yummy Fruity Pebbles you remember (with the sweet smell of strawberry milk and cartoons), but they're amped up with additional fizzy bits. Think Pop Rocks served with milk.
The classic sugar cereal recipe gets mixed with carbon dioxide gas, creating trapped bubbles in the tiny green puffs. When the Poppin’ Pieces -- they’re an actual ingredient listed on the box -- dissolve in your mouth or milk, the bubbles pop.
The result is a slight effervescent aftertaste. It’s not as explosive as dumping a packet of Pop Rocks in your mouth, but still a bit of a trip, and something you won’t get from your boring bowl of Grape Nuts.
And, no, your kid’s tummy won’t explode if he eats this while drinking soda. But we don’t recommend it!
The company is also launching Xtreme Cocoa Pebbles, which promises to be loaded with extra chocolate, creating a leftover bowl of milk that won't go to waste. Both cereals will be available on grocery shelves starting in January.
